The joy of Gideon’s success was stollen by Ephraim’s pride. Ephraim attacked Jeptha and lost 42 thousand men. Finally, in Isaiah 7, God announces final judgement on Ephraim because they schemed against the House of David(The Messianic Line). In all of this, God actively reached out. One such time, He interwove a Messianic message.

We first arrived on the field in March 1995. Since then we have assisted many works and are now serving in Wittenberg. During our first term, while we studied the language, we helped German Pastor Jürgen Notz as he started the Baptisten Bibel Gemeinde in Münsingen, Germany.

After our return from furlough we moved to Munich to fill in for Wilhelm Falk as he went on his furlough. Upon his return, we moved to Wittenberg and filled in for Bro. Brock in Berlin for another four months. We then started holding Bible studies in our home.

After meeting in our living room for several years, God gave us a building to meet in. We are currently meeting on Sundays in a small church building on the west side of town. During the week, we hold Bible studies in our home. We are active in the area schools with sports, English and Bible classes. We are also active in several City-wide cultural events, and are praying that God will continue to expand this outreach.

As of now, we have a small group of faithful believers who are learning God's wonderful plan for their lives. Please pray for these folks as they share the Gospel with their friends and family. We are eager to see God establish a new Gospel-fire in Wittenberg!

Much has changed since 1995. Germany is now part of the greater European Union with a new currency. It is also taking a larger role in the world. The Reformation is but a part of secular Germany’s history. To the typical Easter German citizen truth is relative, and only 4 percent of them attend church on a regular basis.

This all sounds rather imposing, but nothing is impossible for God and He gave us the pattern how to win this generation. Paul said, “…I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.” (1Co 9:22) We have to bring the gospel to the people in a format that they can see, understand and relate to. They have to see it in us (For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, the just shall live by faith. Ro 1:17).

We have to win them over with friendship in order for them to be able see our faith function. Only when they see it real in us will they trust and believe. This takes time and a loving investment of lives lived for Christ.

One of our greatest challenges has been to develop a strong core group. The culture rejects central authority and measures truth by “if everyone is doing it, it must be right” Reaching this culture can be achieved by presenting a united front of believers. Php 1:27 Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel; Often we have suffered setbacks as a small fragile core cannot have the same impact on this culture as a large core full of faith.
