On Ops

The last two months have been full of opportunity. I was invited to be a part of a Skyler's class outing. While spending the night at a youth center, I answered question after question about faith. After almost three hours, we had gathered a small group of listeners. The next morning, as Skyler and I were saying our good byes, the father that started our little question session stated in his farewell, "we are not finished, I want to hear more." Though he lacks the faith to commit, I had the opportunity to walk him through all aspects of salvation, all the while others listened with surprising interest. Pray that God's Spirit will convict.

The Wittenberg City Festival was also a tremendous opportunity to give out God's love and the good news of salvation. We handed out several hundred pieces of literature. We have been using the opportunity of the city festivals as soul winning opportunities for the last five years. God has blessed and people are getting to know us. Many expect to see us there. Even our church neighbour became worried that we wouldn't be there as the usual prep of a test set up of the booth on the church property didn't take place. He was relieved when he saw our booth set up at the festival.

We are preparing for our youngest daughter, Sadie's, Baptism. Baptism is a big thing in the culture. Naturally, they find our form of baptism interesting as it follows a personal decision to trust Christ. East Germans generally respect the idea that our children must make that decision on their own. Our church uses the opportunity to preach the gospel to many who would never consider coming to church on any other occasion. We always tell a new believer in discipleship that Baptism is their first mission trip to a lost world. Please pray for Sadie's lost friends and teachers on this special day. Pray that God's Spirit will prepare hearts.

Praise: Samantha's bike was stolen. Now that doesn't sound like a praise, but wait a moment. Her bike, 1.5 years old, was last seen Sunday the 15 of June at 7 P.M. locked up in our back yard. The next morning at 6:30 it was gone. I made out a police report and called our insurance. They doubted whether our household insurance would cover the loss. We prayed that the bike would be recovered or that the insurance would pay. We had a three week waiting period before we could file with the insurance.

June 30: Samantha's bike was recovered by the police! Praise the Lord!!! The very little nail that God used to stop a thief was so small that it was barely long enough to puncture the tube. That was all it took. The thief had gone to the trouble to change the height of the seat, but a flat tire was just a bit more than he was willing to deal with. God is good. I am sure he laughed at the thief as he walked away from his quarry.
